A husband and wife were yesterday granted $15,000 bail by Acting Chief Magistrate Melissa Robertson.
It was alleged that on February 19 at the Cheddi Jagan International Airport, Terrence Green, 25, of A53 East La Penitence, and Deborah Davson, 39, a Canadian citizen, both behaved in a disorderly manner in a public place.
The couple pleaded not guilty and was represented by attorney at law James Bond.
Their lawyer, in a bail application, told the court that both defendants should be admitted to bail since it’s his belief that the case has no substance for further prosecution.
The lawyer added that since Davson is a Canadian citizen, she has willingly set aside time for the trial here in Guyana. He said that the couple was anticipating travel to Trinidad for an extended vacation.
Although not opposing bail, Police Prosecutor Denise Griffith explained to the court that on the day in question Davson was an outgoing passenger on a flight back to her homeland.
Griffith further told the court that a request was made by police ranks stationed at the airport to check her luggage.
According to the prosecutor, the defendant refused and started to behave disorderly and it was at this point that her husband (Green) intervened and they both started behaving disorderly at the airport.
Bail was granted in the sum of $15,000 and the duo is expected to make their next court appearance on March 27, 2009.
