The second Banks DIH / Kick International Masters Football tournament organized by Twilight Masters in association with Calyton’s Kola Tonic Notredame of Barbados is set to kick off this afternoon at the Carifesta Sports Complex and GFC grounds.
Defending champions Notredame is the only overseas team competing against seven local teams for the top prize of $450,000.
The defending champs are grouped in group A with GT All Stars, Rastafari Patriarchs and Thomas United. Pele Masters, Carib Masters, GFC and Western Tigers are the group B teams.
Notredame open against Thomas United with GT All Stars facing Rastafari Patriarchs in the second game at the Carifesta ground and over at GFC, Pele oppose Western Tigers and Carib Masters tangle with GFC. Kick off time at both venues is 15:00hrs.
Competition will continue tomorrow at both venues from 11:00hrs while on Sunday all the action is set for the GFC ground with the final kicking off at 16:30hrs.
The losing finalist will pocket $225,000 and the winner of the third place clash, $125,000.
The most valuable player, best goalkeeper, defender, midfielder and striker will all be rewarded with trophies.
Organisers, Sherlock Yarde and Gordon Braithwaite said they are confident that this year’s competition will be keenly contested as the Masters have been whipping themselves into top shape over the past few months.
The local teams will be trying their utmost to ensure the trophy remains in Guyana this time around but the Bajan champs will have other ideas.
An exciting competition is expected with a number of past national players set to roll back the years.
