An elderly female shopkeeper had to seek medical attention after bandits tied her up and relieved her of an undisclosed sum of cash last night.
The incident occurred at Diamond, East Bank Demerara, at around 20:00 hours.
According to reports, the woman, who lives alone, was about to close her shop when three men came out of a car and approached her.
The men, who were all armed with handguns, proceeded to tie her up then ransacked her property, carting off cash and other valuables.
During the incident the woman was struck several times about her body, causing her to sustain injuries. Somehow, she managed to free herself and head to the Diamond Diagnostic Centre to seek medical attention.
Ironically, none of her neighbours appeared to hear a thing and were therefore unaware of any robbery.
When this newspaper arrived on the scene, detectives were trying to ascertain from the woman’s relatives what had transpired.
Investigations are continuing.
