Elected councillors representing the coalition government and the opposition People’s Progressive
Party on Friday attended a ceremony which led to the installment of a Mayor and a Deputy to administer the Town of Anna Regina on a new rotation system for the next three years.
The new Mayor is Rabindranauth Mohan and his Deputy is Darshan Persaud.
Sixteen councillors were also installed in support of the new mayoral dispensation. Two will represent the coalition.
It was disclosed that the PPP councillors including the Mayor and his Deputy took total financial control of the Mayorship capacity.
Mohan worked as an employee attached to the Guyana Rice Producers’ Association and also as a PPP councillor representing the PPP. The opposition PPP won Anna Regina at the recently concluded Local Government Elections.
Meanwhile, on Saturday the councillors representing the Local Government areas in the Region will be elected.
Before the Local Government Elections, President David Granger while on a visit said, he would pledge his support to the new dispensation who would represent the Anna Regina Township.
