On Thursday, the Welfare Department of the Guyana Police Force held its
Annual Christmas Party for Other Ranks Children. The event is a yearly undertaking to give back to the children of other ranked officials in the police force.
The term ‘Other Ranks’ simply means ranks from inspector down to constable, or ranks that are not commissioned officers.
The event was held at the Police Sports Club Ground, Eve Leary. It commenced at 14:00hrs. At the party, every child was presented with a gift.
Loraine Saul, Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) and Welfare Officer of the Guyana Police Force, supervised the event. She said, “This is a party that is covered by the Welfare Department of the Guyana Police Force.”
She added that it is an event where children of other ranked officials, aged one to 12 can enjoy a food, gift sharing and steel band music by members of the Guyana Police Force.
She said, “We always use our steel band, to showcase our talent to entertain our people”.
When asked about other ventures being undertaken by her department, she stated that a pensioner’s party will be held later today for retired ranks.
Kaieteur News understands that the Welfare Department also distributes food hampers during the month of December, to the relatives of fallen policemen and women. Ranks, who are either incapacitated, ill or cannot perform their civil duties, would also be recipients of hampers.
