Being a policeman does not necessarily mean that you become alienated from social activities in society. Acting as a law enforcer is not the only the skill that members of the Guyana Police Force (GPF) have. In fact,
most of them are talented in different areas.
This was proven yesterday when the women’s arm of the GPF hosted its first ever ‘Emancipation Affairs’ at the Police Headquarters, Eve Leary.
The gesture which was entirely the initiative of the thoughtful law women was well attended. The tent which was set up in the compound was ‘packed’ with women and a few men outfitted in African attire.
Style, colour and fashion were not lacking as the African apparel being worn were seen in various ‘tastes’.
There was a feel of African heritage as not only was there a range of African wear, but there was a range of African traditional foods being served while those in attendance listened to the rhythmic drumming skills of both young and matured drummers.
The GPF choir did a great job in delivering their renditions of a few folk songs which had quite a few in the congregation singing along as if they had no intention of wanting it to stop.
Senior Superintendent Maxine Graham said that the women’s group thought it would be a nice gesture to get involved in the emancipation celebrations.
This group of women seemed to be good at dishing out some good initiatives including their first annual hat show in April last.
