Immigration Questions & Answers:
Question on Selective Service:
I am a male green card holder and did not register for selective service in the United States. I discovered this when I went to renew my driver’s license. I was not aware that I had to register. Can I be deported and can I ever apply for U.S. citizenship?
Answer: No, you cannot be deported for failure to register for selective service. If you apply for U.S. Citizenship after turning age 31, then this will be a non-issue and will not be a ground for denying your U.S. citizenship application. Meaning, you are still eligible to apply for U.S. Citizenship after reaching age 31. Read more at http://myorlandoimmigrationlawyer.com/citizenship-naturalization/selective-service
Question on Post-Interview:
My husband, a U.S. citizen, filed for me to get a green card, but after the interview in Orlando, the officer did not say whether I was approved or denied. Does the fact that I was not approved on the spot mean I will be denied?
Answer: In most cases, approvals are not issued on the spot because the file is subject to supervisor review. I would give it another 30 days to receive an approval notice and if not approved then hire an immigration lawyer for case inquiry.

Question: I have a seven-year-old daughter who was born in the USA, but we both live in Guyana with her father, my husband. We all go for vacation in the summer and return to Guyana. I would normally purchase a round trip ticket – from Guyana to the US and back – but someone told me that I have to purchase a return ticket for her showing that she is returning to the US. This would mean me buying for her a round trip ticket and one for her returning to the US. Is this a law?
Answer: No, it is not the law that a U.S. citizen must buy a round trip ticket with the U.S. being the final destination. A U.S. citizen is permitted to travel and live outside the U.S. with no restrictions.
Question: My common law husband of 19 years has been sponsored by his mother in the F1 category and my two daughters ages 7 and 14. If I get married and want to go with my family, how long will it take?
Answer: If his mother is a U.S. citizen then he can marry you and you can go with him to the U.S. If she is not a U.S. citizen then he cannot marry you because it will void the immigration petition. Changing from an unmarried child to a married child would delay visa issuance for 2-3 years.
Question: I am 25 years old and I am dating an older woman who is 49. We have been together for about five years. She is not a resident in the U.S, but I am, and I am in the process of processing my citizenship. If we get married would we have any problems with USCIS, regarding our age difference, when I sponsor her?
Answer: You will be required to prove your marriage is good-faith and based on love, and one factor they look at in determining fraud relationships is the age difference between the petitioner and beneficiary. I advise you to gather as much evidence to prove your relationship is good-faith such as phone records, text records, photos, airline tickets, joint purchase, joint bank account, etc.
