Kaieteur News – A prisoner on remand for break and enter robbery was on Saturday killed at the Lusignan Prison, East Coast Demerara (ECD) after another inmate identified as Shamar Davis, 23, stabbed him to the neck with a piece of a mop stick.
Dead is Antony Prince, 23 of Foulis, East Coast Demerara (ECD). The Guyana Prison Service (GPS) said that the stabbing took place around 14:05 hrs and stemmed from jokes they were making about each other’s girlfriend. Prison Guards intervened and Prince was attended to by a nurse on duty at the prison before being rushed to the Georgetown Public Hospital Corporation (GPHC) where he died while receiving treatment.
Police were called in to investigate the matter and Davis has since been separated from rest of the prisoners by being placed in a separate cell. Anthony Prince at the time of his death was on remand for three counts of armed robbery, two counts of Break and Enter and larceny. He was no stranger of the law too. In 2021 the media had labeled him a repeat offender and was accused of escaping lawful custody. The man who allegedly killed him is also a repeat offender who was also on remand at the Lusignan Prison for robbery.
