Kaieteur Sports – There was plenty of table tennis action last Sunday when the Guyana Table Tennis Association (GTTA) held a one day competition at the National Gymnasium, Mandela Avenue, Georgetown, Guyana.
Masters 50 years and over and Handicap Open saw Malachi Moore, Xenophon Goliath, Aneesa Chetram and Delon Barton emerged as the champion in their respective categories.
The handicap Open final was a thriller between More (-4) and Kristian Sahadeo (-5). Moore eventually came out winner 3-2 the scores being 11-9, 5-11,14-12,8-11 and 13-11 (3-2). In the semifinals Moore (-4) came from behind to beat Colin Wong (-5) 3-2, while Sahadeo (-5) defeated Jasmine Billingy (-3) at 3-1.
Quarterfinals saw Sahadeo defeating Thuraia Thomas 3-1, Billingy winning from Owan Wills 3-2, Moore defeating Devon Richmond 3-2 and Wong winning from Kayden Meusa 3-0. A total of 24 players participated in the handicap open.
The Master 50 years and over round robin finals saw Xenophon Goliath winning 4 matches and was declared the winner. He defeated Remy Taitt 3-0, Marlon Washington 3-0, Bruce Murray 3-2 and Roger McLennon 3-0, second place went to Remy Taitt who defeated Washington 3-0, Murray 3-0, and McLennon 3-2. Coming in third was Murray with Washington fourth and McLennon in the cellar.
The Novice Girls final saw Aneesa Chetram winning from Chrisleyann Richards 3-1. Joint third places went to Ashanti Paul and Chelsea Benjamin. There were eight participants in that category.
The Novice Boys division was won by Delon Beaton who defeated Hervin D’Agular by a 3-1 score. Copping joint third were Alexander Zhang and Ravindra Rikee. There were 10 entries in that category. (Samuel Whyte)
