Kaieteur Sports – On Monday, Windies narrowly lost to Wales by 10 runs and thus lost their spot in the top 4 semifinalists’ contenders for the World Cup.
In Wednesday’s matchup in the qualifier against USA, Windies made light work of them defeating them by 9 wickets with 23 overs to spare.
West Indies won the toss and opt to field in very hot and humid conditions and quickly had USA 3 wickets down in the first power play for just 44 runs. There were 2 brief partnerships with skipper Jeevaka & Wayne Copeland (35 runs) and Jeevaka & Pri De Silva (29 runs) after which wicket fell at regular intervals. The skipper, Jeevaka Weerasinghe eventually was last out for a well-played 75 in 124 balls with 7 boundaries. Seamer Emmerson Jordan made his mark on this match by taking a 5 fer 35, whilst leggie Chanderpaul Singh grabbed 2 for 23.
Mike Heeralall had yet another opener in Keith Seale and they enjoyed their best opening partnership of 76 in 9.2 overs before Mike departed for 49 laced with 9 boundaries and a maximum. Deonarine Deyal then joined Seale and they took West Indies safely home in 22.2 overs. Seale registered his first half century on tour to finish with 53* and 6 sweetly timed boundaries off 62 balls. Deonarine Deyal also went unbeaten on 41 off 43 balls with 5 boundaries. Jordan was named the man of the match and Seale the Fighter of the Match for WI.
Friday’s encounter had Windies again taking on Wales for a second time this week. For the first time, Windies won the toss and opted to bat and racked up 255 for 7 in their 45 overs. Quite obviously, they were aiming for 300 but fell well short due to some accurate bowling and fielding by the Welshmen, Keith Seale and Mike Heeralall got Windies off to a rollicking start of 96 runs in 17.5 overs before Mike again firstly departed for 59 off 57 balls with 9 boundaries.
Seale followed up his half century from a few days ago with 40 off 68 balls but got bogged down with the spinner and soon departed at 123 for 2. Roy Singh came & went quickly (10 runs in 8 balls).
Skipper Zamin Amin did not last long either. They both fell LBW to the Welsh spinners. Richard Sieuchan then joined Deyal and they repaired the innings whilst hitting some lusty blows whilst adding 88 in 12 overs before Sieuchan departed for 49 off 41 balls (5 @ 4s and 2 @ 6s) in the 42nd over. The big hitters could only add a few more to close WI off at 255 for 7.
Windies seamers then came to the porty again with some quick strikes to leave Wales tottering at 38 for 2. Thereafter Zamin Amin and Keith Seale combined to take 6 wickets and broke the back of the Wales innings bar a hopeful partnership of 65 runs in between by T Smith & G Edwards. Wales eventually folded for 173 in 37 overs as the West Indies exacted revenge in a convincing fashion on their nemesis to lay claim on the Plate final.
BE THANKFUL AND GRATEFUL TO THE FOREIGN EXPLOITERS
