Sixty-three-year- old former Malteenoes division one middle order batsman Victor Dias donated among other cricket gear, six bats, a quantity of red and white balls, coloured and white batting and Keeper pads.
The donation was made on Monday evening at the club’s Thomas Lands pavilion by the left-handed batsman who left Guyana 33 years ago but has been a regular visitor to his homeland since then.
Dias who played for Malteenoes during the 1970s and 80s at a time when the Case Cup and Bristol Cup tournaments were of a very high standard, said he was pleased to give back to a club and a sport that had helped him to become what he is today and provided with opportunity to meet people and see places.
MSC Vice-President former National U-19 batsman, Shawn Holder, collected the donation on behalf of MSC President Winston Semple and thanked Dias for his timely contribution, which will be mainly used by the players in the youth section.
Holder said he would have learned a lot from Dias and noted he was someone who believed in high standards and would remind the young players the importance of providing a good image of the club by their actions and appearance.
Also present was former MSC President Claude Raphael, former Guyana players Vincent Adams, Claude St John and Neil Barry.
Malteenoes was founded in 1902 and participates in the GCA’s division one, second division and youth levels. (Sean Devers)
