Man, 67, in High Court accused of having sex with a twelve year old.

A 67-year-old man, Ramdehal Ramcharran, of Number Two Settlement, Blairmont, West Bank Berbice, has been committed to stand trial in the Berbice High Court, accused of having sex with a 12-year-old child.
According to the police, the accused is well known to the victim, as her mother did cooking for him.
On the day in question, Ramcharran reportedly sent the victim to collect some wares from his home. He reportedly followed shortly after she had left. On his arrival at home, Ramcharran reportedly locked his door, causing neighbours to become suspicious, and they in turn alerted the child’s brother.
When the brother arrived he found the door secured, and had to force his way into the house. Both parties were naked, and the victim was found hiding under the bed.
The matter was reported to the police and subsequently charges were laid against Ramcharran.
When the accused appeared before Magistrate Rondelle Weever last week he was told that a case was made out against him and so he would have to stand trial at the next sitting of the Berbice High Court. Ramcharran was made to post bail in the sum of $250,000.
