competitions set to be the highlights of the day.
Teams from Linden, East Coast, West Coast Berbice, Guyana Police Force and Guyana Defence Force among several others will compete in the Male and Female: 4×100, 4x200m 4×400, Sprint Medley for Females (100m,100m,200m,400m), Males Sprint Medley (100m,200m,400m,800m), Female Distance Medley (400m, 600m, 600m, 800m), and Male Distance Medley (400m, 600m, 600m, 1200m).
Each relay race carries a total purse of $40,000 with $20,000 for the winner; $12,000 for second and $8,000 for third place. Apart from the relay events the day features two softball matches that brings together some of the best in the sport in Guyana.
Guyana and West Indies All-Rounder, Christopher Barnwell will appear for Boyce/Jefford Select XI in a Softball Match against Trophy Stall XI. The Trophy Stall team features players from the locally renowned Floodlights Masters. The two teams will play for a lien trophy in the Wellman-sponsored match.
The other softball showdown brings together the top two female teams, Trophy Stall Angels in a grudge match against Mike’s Well woman. The match features Guyana’s West Indies World Cup Champions, Shemaine Campbell and Tremayne Smartt. Smartt will play for Trophy Stall Angels while Campbell plays for Mike’s Well Woman.
The winner of the female softball match will pocket $50,000 and a trophy while runner-up gets $25,000. In addition, there will also be prizes for the ‘Best Batter’ and ‘Best Bowler’ on both of the teams.
Xtra Energy and Extra Orange Drink will sponsor the Boyce and Jefford Five-a-Side Football Contest, which will be played during the course of the day as well. The competition kicks off at 10:30am with team registration scheduled for 10am at the venue.
The winner takes home $50,000 and trophy while runner-up gets $25,000. A trophy will also be handed to the MVP of the tournament. The teams expected to compete include: Police, Agricola, Rich Boys, Wartsila, Brazilians, Customs, Barbershop, Sparta Boss, West Front Road and others.
Another feature of the day is the grudge 100m race that features Colin ‘Poison’ Boston from Big Boss Trucking Service against Cadogan of Dynasty. Each participant is lodging $500,000 for the $1,000,000 winner-take-all purse to settle an age-old score.
In addition, the day’s activities also include a race for the media while children events, including bouncy castles and trampolines will be on the programme. The sponsors are Insurance Brokers Guyana Limited, Antarctic Maintenance and Repairs, Star Party Rentals and Jefford Distribution and Sales, National Sports Commission, Clairan’s Boutique, Jude Bike Shop, Palace De Leon, R&D Engineering Services, Banks Malta Supreme, Trophy Stall, Mike’s Pharmacy, Medicine Chest Pharmacy and Xtra Energy Drink.
