Trinidad-based Guyanese, Lionel D’Andrade stopped the clock at 16:20 while, his Trinidadian counterparts
Ted John (16:51) and Nicholas Romany (17:10) placed second and third respectively on Saturday in the Massy Stores inaugural Run for Food 5km race at the Queen’s Park Savannah.
Earlier on Saturday, D’Andrade placed third in the Couva/Point Lisas Chamber of Commerce 5km race in 16:23. Trinidadians, Richard Jones (16:12) and Curtis Cox (16:16), won and placed second respectively.
“This is my first win for the season. I’ve competed in a few other road races, but the season began slowly. The race calendar is really now getting started, as I am too. My training hasn’t been steady as I would like it to be,” D’Andrade said following his performance.
“I’m getting back into my zone, as the calendar gets underway. I am presently preparing for two upcoming road races next weekend; The Sagicor Phoenix 1Lap (6:30pm) and Domestic Violence Survivors 5km (6:00am), both scheduled for Saturday,” he informed.
The Massy Stores Run for Food 5km race had 1767 participants and the initiative seeks to raise awareness for the importance of home-grown produce by incorporating the 5k, zumba exercise and charity event in order to appeal to the public.
