During the past week, seven youth teams from Georgetown had the opportunity for the first time playing under floodlights at the DCC Ground in Queenstown. Everest, GCC, DCC, Malteenoes, Transport, Gandhi, and GNIC comprised basically of under-fifteen players, with three under-seventeen allowed, are competing for coach Gavin Nedd Birthday Trophy. This is a Guyana Floodlight Softball Cricket Association (GFSCA) and Demerara Cricket Club (DCC) collaborative effort to develop young cricketers who are aspiring to make the Demerara, Guyana and West Indies team.
Ten games have already played. The final preliminary rounds are this evening from 6:00PM. The two semi -finals will be played tomorrow starting 9:30AM and 1:00PM respectively. The final between the two semi-final winners will be contested from 6:30 pm. Admission is free and cricket fans are urged to come and support and witness some future stars.
Presently Everest are undefeated and on top of group A with nine points from their 3 wins and Gandhi also undefeated on top of group B with 6 points from 2 wins.
Another competition, similar to this but for under-thirteen years old, will start next Sunday October 4th at 6:00PM at the DCC ground. Players who qualify to play must be born in 2003 and after.
