Kaieteur Sports – The eagerly anticipated fifth edition of the ExxonMobil Boy’s and Girl’s Under-14 Football Championship, slated to commence this Saturday (May 18), has encountered a minor hiccup. Due to unforeseen circumstances, the tournament’s kickoff has been rescheduled to Saturday, May 25.
This update was confirmed yesterday during the customary Team Briefing hosted by the Petra Organisation, the tournament’s dedicated coordinator. Troy Mendonca, Co-Director of Petra, addressed the gathering, explaining that circumstances beyond their (the organisation) control necessitated the delay. Consequently, the championship will now commence on May 25 at the Ministry of Education round.
Several schools attended the Petra Organisation Team Briefing event held at the National Racquet Centre.
Despite the slight delay, excitement remains palpable as 56 teams, comprising 32 Boy’s and 24 Girl’s teams prepare to vie for the coveted titles. Notably, this year’s event promises to be the largest in terms of participation since its inception, building on four years of successful tournaments.
With an extended wait, anticipation is sure to reach fever pitch as the tournament approaches its new start date on May 25.
