A Charlestown businessman is set to face a High Court trial for buggery. Yesterday a jury was empanelled before Justice Dawn Gregory at the High court in Georgetown, to oversee the trial for which Kevin Gordon is accused of committing the act on a minor.
The incident is said to have occurred on November, 2, 2007. The trial is set to take place in camera. State Prosecutors, Stacey Goodings and Orinthia Schmidt will be presenting the case on behalf of the State.
On Monday, Ray Thomas, a 46-year-old man, was found guilty of engaging in sexual activity with a child. He was sentenced to 18 years in prison for the offence. The sentence was handed down by Justice Gregory at the Georgetown High Court.
Thomas was accused of using his finger to penetrate his victim, who was eight years old at the time. The incident is said to have occurred on February 2, 2012. Thomas’s trial was held in camera.
Kaieteur News understands that the victim was a regular visitor of Thomas’ home. The convict, who was unrepresented throughout his trial, remained silent, as the jury returned the verdict. The case was also presented by State Prosecutors Stacey Goodings and Orinthia Schmidt.
