Chief Magistrate Priya Sewnarine-Beharry remanded a licensed firearm holder to prison, after he was charged with the capitol offence of murder.
Andre Gomes was not required to plead to the charge after it was read to him at the Georgetown Magistrates’ Courts.
Particulars of the charge stated that on May 10, at Middle Street, he murdered Nigel Isaacs.
According to Police Corporal, Bharrat Mangru, a spent shell was recovered from the crime scene the day after the incident. He explained that the spent shell recovered matches the gun of the accused.
Gomes is being represented by Attorney Mr. Mark Waldron.
This matter will be called again on June 1.
Isaacs, 40, of Roxanne Burnham Gardens, was shot and injured around 00.25 hrs on Sunday, during an altercation between an associate and a taxi driver whose vehicle had struck a parked car.
Isaacs later succumbed at the Georgetown Public Hospital Corporation (GPHC) around 19.20 hrs.
Kaieteur News understands that the shooting occurred minutes after Isaacs and the alleged shooter had left a Main Street night club.
This publication was told that after the vehicle was damaged, the alleged shooter struck the taxi driver with the firearm. It was reportedly then that he accidentally discharged a round, which struck Isaacs.
When the round was discharged the taxi driver reportedly tried to flee the scene, and the alleged shooter pursued him, unaware that he had shot Isaacs.
A police release stated that at approximately 00:25 hrs on Sunday the driver of HB 4024 accidentally struck motor car PPP 7994 that was parked in Main Street, Georgetown.
A confrontation ensued between the driver and the owner of the car, during which a gunshot was fired.
