Simple Royal Stable takes top honours
By Samuel Whyte
Champion horse Score’s Even, Guyana’s only A class animal owned and trained by Dennis DeRoop of the Simple Royal Stable’s stable, rebounded with a vengeance from a shocking loss in its last race in January. The Kentucky bred A1 class animal running with a weight of 126 pounds was back to itself, whipped the field, taking top honours in the feature A class
and lower event when the Kennard Memorial Turf Club successfully held their annual one day Phagwah horserace meet at the club’s entity, Bush Lot, Corentyne, Berbice on Sunday.
The six furlongs race with a top prize of $1M and trophy saw the six animals entered off with an even break. The race was going at a blistering pace early with the animals spread out across the track. Throughout the entire back stretch it was a ding down battle with Country Armagh, Jack Is My Style, Got to Go, Score’s Even, Money In return and California Strike all in the reckoning.
Country Armagh, one of three Grays in the race, took the lead and when Score’s Even came up alongside the animals went neck and neck.
However, into the homestretch, sprinting at pace, Jockey Randolph Richmond astride Score’s Even, spurred the racehorse on and it galloped away for the convincing win. Got To Go eased past Country Armagh for second with Jack is My Style rounding out the top four.
Mulwakee Blitz of the Jagdeo Stable with Trinidadian Patrick in saddle, blitzed the field with a stunning finish for its first win in Guyana as it raced away with the D3 and lower 6Furlong event and the $400,000 and trophy at stake. In a close encounter, the animal won from a fast finishing Some Legend, Red and Lovely and it’s My Turn.
Shooting star of the Sheriff stable with Colin Ross shot to the front as it won the $300,000 winner’s money and trophy in the 7 Furlong event for G1 and lower animals in a close call from Bridal Stone Corner, Damascus Dream and Quiet Strom.
The 6Furlong event for Three year old Guyana bred horses saw Royal Cash with Prem Chandra in the stirrups cashing in with the $250,000 top prize and trophy ahead of Little, Nobre Import and Sunny Silence.
Mary Ann of the Goberdhan stable with Paul Delph riding, ran away with the ‘I’ and lower 6Furlong race and the $250,000 pocket and trophy from Party Time and Famous Pride.
Iron Man owned and trained by champion trainer Dennis De Roop of the Simple Royal Stable proved too strong for its opponents in the two J class events by winning both.
Ridden by Ajai, it first whipped the field in the J3 event over 5Furlong to take the $150,000 top money and trophy before returning for a close win in the J1 event over Pixie Fire, Party Time, and Famous Praise. That win was worth $200,000 and trophy.
The top jockey was Ajai Sansarran with Colin Ross the runner up. The Simple Royal Stable for its three wins was adjudged the top stable with owner and trainer Dennis DeRoop the top trainer. They received trophies and other accolades compliments of Trophy Stall, Bourda Market and the organizers.
Iron Man for its two wins came up alongside Score’s Even, both of the Dennis De Roop stable, as the top horses on show.
Over 75 horses had entered in the day’s event which had over $6M at stake.
The KMTC brought off an incident free day of racing. The police once again came in for high praise from the organizers.
