Guyanese athletes and boxers lost on their opening action at the National Stadium of Chile at the South American Games 2014.
Alisha Fortune finished sixth in the 100m semifinal won by Angela Micolta Tenorio of Ecuador.
Winston George was only good for fourth in the 400m final which was won by Ande Freitas Henriques of Brazil. Cleveland Thomas (4:02.20) and Cleveland Forde (4:02.36) finished eighth and ninth respectively in the 1500m final. The race was won by Federico Bruno (3:39.96) of Argentina.
Gabriel Maestre of Venezuela beat Eon Bancroft of Guyana 3-0 to hand the Guyanese a loss.
Guyanese boxers Dennis Thomas and Theresa London were scheduled for action yesterday.
