Stewartville and Zeeburg battled to a 1-1 draw when play in the National Association of Women Football (NAWF) Under-17 eight-team Inter Secondary School competition continued recently at the Uitvlugt Community Centre Ground, West Coast Demerara.
The exchanges were fierce, even in the first half with both teams having one thing in common; they missed efforts from the penalty spot. Lashawn LaRose of Zeeburg was the first to throw away in the 12th minute and Stewartville followed suit in the 20th minute when Tamar Isaacs emulated La Rose. Isaacs also missed a sitter in the 18 yard box after receiving a through ball.
Zeeburg’s custodian Sherne Kertzious also brought off some good saves that kept her school in the game denying Lashana Paul on three occasions. The first half didn’t produce any goals but the action was pulsating.
In the 45th minute, it was Zeeburg who would take the lead against the run of play through Kezia Baird’s well directed shot. Stewartville had to work even harder having found themselves trailing the determined Zeeburg side.
They {Stewartville} were duly rewarded in the 62nd when the persistent Lashana Paul was finally able to ink her name on the score sheets.
