With a hyped techno audio introduction that reverberated through the boom-boxes of Fusion, the Chief Executive Officer of Hits and Jams, Rawle Ferguson, rolled back many years when he was a schools’ athletic champion with a 100m victory last Sunday.
Ferguson, ‘repping’ Team Quick, concluded weeks of hype and cross-talk in a grudge race against, Kerwin Bollers, who represented Team Lightning with a comfortable win at the Police Sports Club Ground,
Eve Leary before hundreds of curious onlookers and patrons.
The Hits and Jams Day of Sports was a precursor to Hits and Jams Sports, which is expected to be launched later this year. The organisers brought together the Entertainers, Promoters and the media, among other groups, for novelty races, football and cricket matches.
In the anticipated race of the day, Bollers bolted out the blocks for a quick start before Ferguson caught him at around 60m before pulling away to win easily. The massive crowd celebrated with lots of fanfare as cameras flashed from all angles.
It was as if a world record was broken with the type of celebration that ensued after the win. The idea was to test the ground for the type of publicity and entertainment in local sport that will help catapult it to greater spectator support.
At the official launch of the event, Hits and Jams had said that they will be partnering with some serious sport events this year. In other news, Guyana Times/TVG/RGI’s Treiston Joseph won the media race comfortably at the inaugural Hits and Jams Day of Sports. (Edison Jefford)
