Greaves reigns supreme in main race for 2nd year running
Leading Roraima Bikers Club (RBC) cyclist Alonzo Greaves copped back to back titles when he successfully defended the main race trophy at the 8th George Cumberbatch Memorial Cycle Meet, which was held at the Seawall Bandstand on Sunday last.
The event attracted sponsorship again from Mr. George Humphrey of Humphrey’s Bakery & Farm Products of Kettley Street Charlestown and Mr. Clifford ‘Toto’ Johnson, who is based in the United Kingdom.
Facing a star studded line-up in the day’s final race, a 30 lap contest, Greaves, who has been somewhat invisible since the start of the new season, was in no mood to play second fiddle any longer.
He crossed the finish line ahead of Geron Williams, Orville Hinds, Raynauth Jeffrey, Raul Leal and Paul De Nobrega in that order. Jeffrey took four (4) of the 10 sprint prizes on offer with two (2) each to Greaves and Hinds. Williams and Shaquelle Agard won one each.
Cash prizes were presented to the top six in the feature race, while the first to third in the other races were also rewarded with cash.
