Feb 16, 2014 Letters
Dear Editor,
With respect to a not so recent publication in last Sunday’s edition of your dailies, 9th February 2014. I pen these words to bring attention to the “Notice” which read Guyana Teachers’ Union Biennial Election 2014.
What was most interesting, however, were some of the names of the candidates contesting for certain electoral posts.
Several of the names in particular caught my attention and I was spellbound and flabbergasted by some of the individuals for having the audacity to still contest for the various post at the GTU.
These individuals have failed consecutive terms as GTU executives to bring about note worthy representation and change for the teachers they were elected to serve.
The membership of the Guyana Teachers Union deserves a Union that is rid of these individuals.
I believe the time has come and that time is now, for us members of the Guyana Teachers Union to vote for change. We need a new breed of people at the leadership of the GTU. There is no need to recycle, yes recycle those individuals who have become complacent and their lackluster approach to unionism is self evident, that there is a greater desire now for change than ever before.
Our learned members of the union it is now compulsory of us to vote for change and newness.
Denise Hamilton
