Young Warriors to battle Tamran Root of Hampshire at Cumberland
Champions of the 2010 New Building Society 40 over Second Division tournament organised by the Berbice Cricket Board will be crowned on Sunday when the final will be contested between Young Warriors and Tamran Root of Hampshire at the Cumberland Cricket Ground.
An interesting battle is anticipated as both teams’ boots a number of solid all round players on paper.
Young Warriors will start as favourites with home advantage but will be weary of Tamran Root who have upset several top teams on their way to the championship match.
Spearheading Young Warriors will be veterans Anil Beharry and Hubern Evans with support from teenage batting sensation Shimron Hetmyer, Khemraj Harris, Ishwar Singh, Linden Austin; the hard hitting Rudolph Baker and the talented Simon Lawson.
The 13 year-old Hetmyer has impressed the cricketing public of Berbice and is touted as the next outstanding batsman from the Ancient County.
Pacers Kawal Mangal and Amir Rahaman will share the new ball for the home team with support from medium pacer Baker, off spinners Evans, Shazad Khan, Linden Austin and left arm spinner Anil Beharry.
Tamran Root’s challenge for the first place will be led by the exciting middle order batsman Mahendra Ramdihal, Hemendra Ramdihal, Alvin Ramdass, Mohamed Altaf, Lionel Seegobin and Kevin Madramootoo.
Ramdass and the Ramdihal brothers are very capable of devastating any bowling attack and can pose problems for the home team.
The visitors bowling attack centers around pacers Satesh Dwarka and Mahendra Ramdihal; spinners Dilip Rengasammy, Kevin Madramootoo, Alvin Ramdass and Hemendra Ramdihal.
The winning team will pocket $60,000 and trophy, the runner up $30,000 and trophy while the man-of-the-finals will receive $5,000 and trophy.
Officials of New Building Society and the Berbice Cricket Board are expected to meet the teams prior to the start of the match. They will also be part of the presentation ceremony immediately after the game.
All eight teams who reached the quarterfinals of the tournament will each receive a pair of batting pads as part of the BCB’s development programme.
Game time is 11:00hrs with umpires Joseph Simon, Roshan Moakan and Jaipersaud Hardeo in charge of proceedings.
