The Guyana Table Tennis Association (GTTA) two-member cadets team that will compete at the Pan American Cadets’ Championship in the Dominican Republic received financial support from Industrial Safety Supplies Incorporated yesterday.
General Manager of the safety supplies company, Hemant Narine told Kaieteur Sport that he was a former athlete and he understands what sponsorship means to athletes. He said that it is against that background that he contributed to the association.
“I used to shoot competitively and in those days before I had this business, I had sponsors. I’m in a position now to hep people, but I am only helping children. I think that is where we should start and that is where I am starting,” Narine indicated.
He said that he will never forget where he came from. Assistant General Secretary of the GTTA, Deidre Edghill thanked Narine for his contribution, labelling it a “major boost” since ticket costs are very exorbitant to travel to the Dominican Republic.
“These countries are very expensive to travel to. In fact, Barbados and Trinidad will not be going to the competition because of the cost of airfare,” Edghill informed, adding that they are down to leave Guyana on October 7 to compete in the event.
Edghill, who will manage the team that comprises Caribbean Under-13 gold medallist, Chelsea Edghill and Jamaal Duff, said that they will travel to the Dominican Republic via Miami with the duo battling in the mixed doubles and singles competitions.
BE THANKFUL AND GRATEFUL TO THE FOREIGN EXPLOITERS
