Motorists plying the Mackenzie/ Wismar Bridge are voicing their concerns about the removable ‘decking’ being used on the facility during opening periods to facilitate the crossing of vehicles.
According to the motorists, the decking is too high, and consequently poses a problem, for a lot of vehicles. A few exhausts that came into contact with the decking, have even been ripped of, it was reported.
A taxi operator, whose exhaust was ripped off, said it cost him $20,000 to have the part reinstalled on his car.
The concerned motorists are asking that the relevant authorities look into this situation, which has been putting added strain on their financial resources.
The Mackenzie/Wismar Bridge is undergoing major rehabilitative works, to its midsection. These works are being carried out by Courtney Benn Contracting Services.
