Mark Cyrus, who was shot at his home in Amelia’s Ward by Police ranks after a confrontation on Wednesday, is now likely to face other charges for various crimes he allegedly committed at Amelia’s Ward, Linden.
These charges would be laid when he is released from the Georgetown Public Hospital. The face off with police followed allegations that the man had attempted to rape a woman the night before. Cyrus was reportedly also wanted by the Police for committing several other crimes in the community.
Earlier reports had indicated that the man had attempted to rape a Central Amelia’s Ward woman on Tuesday night; hence a warrant was out for his arrest. Later reports from informed sources have confirmed that Cyrus did indeed commit the rape. According to the reports, Cyrus on the night of August 4, broke into the woman’s house, placed a cutlass to her throat and raped her. He also stole several of her belongings.
The police subsequently swooped down on the man’s house in Central Amelia’s Ward, after receiving a tip that he was at home, the following day. They surrounded the premises and ordered Cyrus to surrender, but instead of complying he reportedly attacked the ranks with a cutlass. He was shot in the right thigh during the confrontation.
Cyrus was then taken to the Linden hospital Complex for medical attention, and later transferred to the Georgetown Public Hospital.
At the scene Police recovered two televisions, one DVD, a crowbar and a cell phone, all suspected to be stolen, and an unlicensed firearm.
