Troy Browne, 26, for whom no address was given was yesterday handed a six-month jail sentence by Magistrate, Priya Beharry right after his disrespectful and insolent behaviour while answering charges of unlawful possession of an offensive weapon, and use of threatening language against a female security guard.
The accused displayed arrogance and insolence the moment he entered the courtroom. He shot murderous glances at police officers.
On August 2, at the Georgetown Public Hospital Corporation (GPHC), Browne was arrested with an offensive weapon (screwdriver). He was unable to give a favourable excuse for having it.
It is said also on that date that he used threatening language against female security guard, Anita Baggot, inside the hospital compound.
Browne told the court yesterday that he was protecting himself from a man in Lodge, Georgetown, with whom he had a scuffle. Attempts by a police officer in the court to retrieve a bunch of keys from Browne resulted in a tug-o-war between the two, during which Browne loudly ranted ‘Yuh bullying me for me own thing or what?”.
When the officer managed to pry the keys from his fingers, Browne promptly sat down on the bench and had to be admonished by the magistrate, since he refused to stand when ordered to do so by the police officers.
When asked by the magistrate to enter his plea, Browne rudely mouthed, “I have nothing to say” and attempted to open the door of the box of which he was seated. The officers had to lock the door and warn the man to desist from such actions.
More drama unfolded as Browne, for some strange reason remained seated in the chute and had to be pried loose from his life grip on the wall by a police officer.
The police officer was also forced to wait as the man put on a large had and stylish dark shades as if readying for a fashion parade.
