As round one of the NSBF continues
The National Schools’ Basketball Festival (NSBF) continued yesterday with wins for the Guyana Technical Institute (GTI), Cummings Lodge, Plaisance and Charlestown in their respective groups in first round contests.
Cummings Lodge opened their campaign with a 54-0 points win against Saints in the Under-15 group. J. Smith, K. Hyles and N. Horatio each scored 12 points for the East Coast-based Cummings Lodge.
No player from Saints made double figures with Rex and Darrell Williams scoring five points each. The senior secondary institute returned in the Under-19 competition for yet another thrashing at the hands of GTI.
The Technical Institute won 47-28 with Thomas Shelron leading the way with 15 points in the one-sided affair and Lewis Damian adding 12 points. Plaisance then defeated Marian Academy 27-10 in the Under-15 competition.
Charlestown survived Saint Roses High 29-22 in one of the major Under-19 games of the day after the scores were tied 22-22, and with less than five minutes remaining; Charlestown’s Orson Amsterdam nailed a three-pointer.
After the big shot, Charlestown raced to an offensive advantage. Amsterdam’s 13 points was the highest in the game with support from Murtland Ward. Jermaine Luthers scored 11 points for the losing Saint Roses High.
The competition was still ongoing up to press time last night. The NSBF continues today from 1:00pm at the Cliff Anderson Sports Hall, with games in the Under-15, Under-17 and Under-19 divisions.
