Police have recovered the skeletal remains which they suspect to be that of a Berbice woman who was reported missing almost a month ago.
Arifa Muntazali, 30, of Queenstown, Corriverton, had been reported missing to police at Springlands on May 30.
Investigations by the police led to the arrest of a Chesney man who was reported to be involved in a relationship with Muntazali. The man was held on June 21, 2009, at Parika on the East Bank of Essequibo.
Police said in a press release that subsequent investigations led to the discovery of the skeletal remains at about 15:00 hours yesterday in a trench at Chesney Backdam, Corentyne.
