Alpha ‘The Hammer’ United continued their winning ways, defeating Conquerors FC 3-1, while Camptown FC prevailed over the Georgetown Football Club when play in the Guyana Football Association/Cellink Premier League continued at the Tucville Ground Sunday evening last.
Shawn Bishop netted a double in the 43rd and 75th minutes for ‘The Hammers’ while Dwight Peters netted the other in the 24th. Lester Peters scored a face saving goal in the 67th minute for Conquerors.
GFC’s two goals came off the boot of Orlando Gilgeous in the 70th minute, while Kwame LaFluer netted in the 90th.
The win propelled Alpha on par with the Guyana Defence Force with 15 points each. However, ‘The Hammers, hold the advantage by dint of superior goal difference. Camptown FC have accrued 9 points and are currently nestling in the third place, while Sunburst Conquerors have 7 points and are in the fourth position. Pele and Western Tigers are level on 4 points apiece, but Pele, by dint of superior goal difference, have the edge for the fifth spot.
Flamingo FC have just one point with GFC, yet to register a point, in the cellar.
Meanwhile, the competition continues on Friday with Camptown against Pele.
However, the game on Sunday has been cancelled because Alpha, who are scheduled to play, will be on international assignment, in Suriname, for a Tri-nation, invitational tournament that also involves teams from Suriname and French Guiana.
