Ryan Christopher, 25, the conductor who operates a minibus along the Parika/Georgetown route and who was also wanted in connection with the abduction of a 15-year-old female student, of Jacklow, Lower Pomeroon River, was yesterday placed on $100,000 bail by Magistrate Faith Mc Gusty.
Christopher appeared at the Suddie Magistrate’s Court where the charge of the abduction of a minor was read to him. The police said that Christopher, of Vreen-en-Hoop, West Coast Demerara, abducted the 15-year-old Cotton Field student from her teacher’s residence at Devonshire Castle.
The report further stated that at the time Christopher had turned up with a motor cycle and had called the teen out of the house. As soon as the teacher took her eyes off the minor and headed into the house, the 25 year- old man rode off with the girl.
The police are contending that Christopher took the teen to Berbice where he rented a room in a hotel for the two and stayed for three weeks.
However, his luck ran out and with it his love for the teen, whom he began to physically assault. The minor subsequently contacted her relatives at Herstelling, East Bank Demerara, who responded, and caused her to be taken to the Anna Regina police station where she filed a report.
Representing Christopher, Counsel Hemraj Rajkumar, in his application for bail said that Christopher’s family who was also present would ensure that he stays faithful to his attendance. He also mentioned that his client is not a flight risk.
However, Projector Oswald Pitt, strongly objected. He was overruled.
