Livestock owner, mason granted bail for narcotic possession

Royston Adams, 44, of ‘BB’ Eccles Housing Scheme, who it is alleged had half gram of cannabis in his possession on Tuesday last, was yesterday granted $35,000 bail by Acting Chief Magistrate, Melissa Robertson.
He pleaded not guilty to the charge.
According to the defendant, he is totally unaware as to why the police charged him for a crime of which he has no knowledge.

Adams told the court that on the day in question a police officer, along with some teenaged boys, was passing his house when he started laughing at them.
The man said that a few minutes later the same officer returned and arrested him after picking up something off the floor.

The defendant said that he has no knowledge of the drugs that the police found since he does not smoke but only looks after his livestock. He begged the magistrate to grant him pretrial liberty.
Bail was granted and the accused is expected to make his next court appearance on March 4.
Also appearing in the same courtroom to answer a narcotic charge was 19-year-old Seon Charles, of Cummings Street, Alberttown.

It is alleged that the accused on February 23 had in his possession nine grams of cannabis for the purpose of trafficking. The mason pleaded not guilty to the charge and was placed on $60,000 bail. He is expected to make his next court appearance on March 20.
