The family of 27-year-old Shantie Seegobin has been searching for her for approximately one week now. According to the woman’s husband, Julian Sahoye, Seegobin left their lot 37 North Sophia home on the East Coast of Demerara on November 17, under the pretext that she was going to her mother’s residence in Kitty; but until now, she has not been seen or heard from by any member of her family.
Her husband claims that he and his wife did not have any fight or argument in recent times, so he could not understand the reason why she would want to leave his home. He said that he is very concerned for her safety, taking into consideration the killings and kidnappings happening around the country.
The man explained that, on the day his wife left, he was told that she had packed a bag with some of her clothing and had informed his mother that she was leaving to go see her mother in Georgetown.
However, according to the obviously distraught man, Seegobin’s mother has not seen or heard from her since.
He explained that he and Seegobin have shared a common-law relationship for the past three years, which had started shortly after his first wife died and left him to maintain five children, whose ages range from five to 15 years.
Sahoye said that on the day before his wife disappeared, she was seen consuming alcohol with some friends in the neighbouring village of Liliendaal. He noted that he is unaware if her friends would have encouraged her to leave him.
When questioned if there would be any reason why his wife would want to just up and disappear without informing anyone, the man said that he himself is wondering why she would want to do something like that.
According to Sahoye, he and his family searched the entire community and surrounding areas for his wife, but this proved futile.
Anyone with information relative to the whereabouts of the 27-year-old Shantie Seegobin is asked to contact the nearest police station, or her husband on telephone number 691-4398.
