Ian ‘Dumb Boy’ Jackson has once again proven that a physical disability has noting to do with excelling on the field of sport when the playing field is level.
Dr. Jose De Silva (right) presents the top cash prize for the feature 30-lap event to winner, Ian Jackson.
Jackson humbled a star studded field to win the feature 30-lap race, the 29th and final event of the day, by about half lap and along with the win, took 12 of the 30 prime prizes on offer, one for each lap.
And capping a fine day also was junior cyclist Christopher Holder who out pedaled Alonzo Greaves to take the second place, a finish that had the crowd animated and involved.
It was the ideal climax to an exciting day of cycling which was well supported by ardent fans of the sport at the Everest Cricket Ground.
Last year’s winner Darren Allen was not up to the challenge this time around and lagged behind in the second pack for the entire race along with Tyrone Hamilton, Robin Persaud, and a few others.
The lead changed hands in the opening laps as the riders shared the primes but that soon changed as Greaves, Holder, who carried the pace for quite sometime, Jaikarran Sukhai who excited the race on the penultimate lap and Jackson, separated themselves from the main pack and never looked back.
Junior Niles finally got away from the second pack on lap 16 eventually linking up with the front runners two laps later.
But with Greaves unwilling to attack and pace, preferring to tuck in behind Holder who was carrying the pace, Jackson broke away from them and went on his own with the others willing to play Greaves’ game at the back.
This tactic allowed Jackson to storm ahead to eventually take the top spot with Holder, who took 9 primes, digging deep to take the runner up position ahead of Greaves.
The other primes were shared by Greaves (3), Sukhai (2) with one each for Geron Williams, Hamilton, John Charles who fell out on lap 17 and Allen.
Jackson had earlier won one of the veteran’s under-50 races. Holder was also dominant in both races for juniors ahead of Geron Williams and Enzo Matthews in that order. The second race was of unknown distance.
He also won the junior/juvenile combined race which saw Jonathan Fagundes claiming 2nd and Matthews 3rd, Williams and Matthews fell on lap 5 with the former failing to regain lost ground but still finished the event.

Greaves was victorious in the devil takes the hinds most, with Hamilton and Williams second and third. Greaves also won the first race for category 1&2 riders ahead of Hamilton and Charles, while the second race was taken by Hamilton ahead of Greaves in another exciting sprint with Robin Persaud, 3rd.
Darren Allen was the number one in the two category 3&4 races, Darrel Peters (2nd) and Mark Lewis (3rd) in the first, Sukhai and Lewis following him to the line in the second.
Little Raymond Perez was again unstoppable in the BMX 6-9 age group winning both races, Dineshwar Ragubeer and Rawle Mc Lean 2nd and 3rd in both.
Other riders with two or more wins on the day were Jonathan Fagundes in both juvenile races and the BMX open.
Crystal Blackman in the girls BMX 6-12 with Ashley Anthony as the runner up.
Ozia McCually (BMX open and 12-14), Aubrey Springer (veterans over-50), Kester Croal (upright), Asif Shaw (BMX 12-14),
In other results of the other races, first to third; Boys 12-14; Jason Pollydore, Brandon Baker and T. Anderson. Veteran’s under-50; Linden Blackman, Esau O’Selmo, Bochel Samaroo.
A number of sponsors were on hand to present the prizes that they sponsored.
