….also heads 75th Anniversary Committee
The Berbice Cricket Board (BCB) has reappointed long standing Rose Hall Town Youth & Sports Club (RHTY&SC) Secretary/CEO Hilbert Foster as Chairman of its highly successful Special Events Committee and will also head the BCB 75th Anniversary Committee.
Foster who resigned from the position in May due to illness was approached by Executives of the Board after recovering and readily agreed to assist.
This time around, the work load will not be as hectic as compared to the five years when Foster led the committee when over 600 activities/programmes were successfully completed.
The committed administrator in an invited comment stated that while he had agreed to assist Berbice cricket, his main priority would be his duties at the Rose Hall Town Youth & Sports Club.
Since Foster’s resignation the BCB had not undertaken a single special events programme and he expressed his disappointment that no one was able to step up to the challenges. Instead of undertaking a record breaking 175 activities/programmes per year, Foster disclosed that the BCB Special Events Committee would now concentrate on 20 to 30 major projects per year including a massive countywide coaching programme, awards ceremony, annual magazine, elite training programme, assistance to less fortunate clubs and anti-drugs and pro-education programmes. Sponsorship would also be obtained for tournaments at the Under-15, 17, 19, Female, Second and First Divisions levels.
The BCB during the period of August – September 2014 would be celebrating its 75th Anniversary, having come into9 existence in 1939 to administer the game in Berbice. The Board would be organising a series of activities to mark this special anniversary.
Members of the Special Events Committee are Anil Beharry, Angela Haniff, Winston Smith, Leslie Solomon, Rabindranauth Saywack and Gegory Rambarran. Foster issued a challenge to the members to work together and to dedicate themselves to the task of working for the development of the sport in the Ancient County.
