Seasoned campaigner Robin Persaud racked up another victory this year when he stormed to the top spot in the Ballot Box Day 60-Mile cycle road race held in the ancient County of Berbice on Sunday last, dethroning Alonzo Greaves in the process.
Persaud, who also captured two of the eight prime prizes in the Chris Jagdeo sponsored event, stopped the clock at Two Hours 12 Minutes 49.52 Seconds to win ahead of Godfrey Pollydore, Alonzo Greaves, Michael Anthony, Orville Hinds and Walter Grant-Stuart in that order.
Hinds won two primes with one each for Greaves, Chris Persaud, Anthony and Pollydore. The race pedaled off from Freedom House, New Amsterdam, proceeded to the Corriverton Police Station before returning to Number 63 Village for the finish.
Anthony, the 2013 National Junior Road Race champion, continues his fine showing by topping the junior field; Mario King copped the second place with Shaquel Agard, third.
Ozia McCaullay was the leading rider in the mountain bike category which he took from Julio Melville and Stephano Husbands in that order.
Raymond Newton returned to winnings ways as he crossed the line ahead of his rivals in the veteran category. Gary Benjamin and Ian ‘Deaf Boy’ Jackson closed out the top three spots.
Hazina Barrett turned the tables on rival Naiomi Singh in the female battle while the oldest competitor on the day was Montgomery Parris.
Sunday’s event attracted 55-starters. The presentation of prizes and trophies was done by Regional Six Chairman Mr. David Armogan and members of the Ballot Box Day Committee.
