There has been no arrest so far as police continue their investigation into the kidnapping of Brazilian Diamond dealer Sergio Mattos.
According to a source close to the investigation the victim has indicated that he will not pursue the matter but would rather go back to his life as it was before. However the man has since provided police with a detailed statement on the entire ordeal.
On Wednesday morning last around 00:03 hours, 35-year-old Mattos, Proprietor of Pure Diamonds Trading on Duncan Street, Campbellville, was abducted by four men while leaving a house in Stone Avenue, Campbellville.
Kaieteur News understands that the man was about to enter his vehicle when a car pulled up alongside him. The occupants, who were said to be clad in police attire, forced the businessman into their vehicle as they held him at gunpoint, covered his head with a bag, and relieved him of his licenced firearm.
Attempts were made by the abductors to secure a ransom but that failed after the alarm to a building from which the money was being taken, went off, alerting the police and a security firm.
The businessman was later rescued after being spotted on the Soesdyke/Linden Highway.
