The 16th Ordinary Meeting of the Executive Board of the Pan Caribbean Partnership against HIV and AIDS (PANCAP) will be convened in Georgetown shortly
Under the chairmanship of the Dr. Leslie Ramsammy, Minister of Health, and Chairman of the Regional Coordinating Mechanism (RCM), the meeting will, among other issues, discuss the main proposals and outcomes of the 10th Annual General Meeting (AGM).
This would include elements of the Conference Resolution, 2015: ‘elimination of mother-to-child transmission and travel restrictions of persons living with HIV, by 2015, increasing by 80 per cent access to care and treatment, decreasing by 50 per cent the number of new infections, and accelerating the human rights agenda.’
The 2010 PANCAP Resolution also called for re-establishing the “Champions for Change” initiative as part of the response to reduce HIV and AIDS stigma and discrimination in the Caribbean.
Other issues on the agenda include the mechanisms to be established for improving collaboration between partners, given the linkage between PANCAP and the Caribbean Public Health Agency (CARPHA); and the role of the PANCAP Coordinating Unit (PCU), in this regard.
The RCM will also receive reports on the status of programmes and projects being implemented by PANCAP as well as updates on the PANCAP constitution, the convening of the 11th AGM which is scheduled to take place in Belize later this year and a report on the organisation and management review of the Caribbean Regional Network of Persons Living with HIV (CRN+).
The meeting will begin at 9:00 am with a special session in which remarks will be delivered by several Community officials, including Dr. Ramsammy and PCU Officer-in-Charge, Dr. Morris Edwards.
The Executive Board of PANCAP was formerly known as the Regional Coordinating Mechanism (RCM).
Its responsibilities include providing policy guidance on the effective management and operation of the partnership and approving and directing all PANCAP projects. PANCAP, established in 2001, is the regional mechanism responsible for coordinating the Caribbean’s response to the HIV and AIDS epidemic.
