Dear Editor,
Large multinational companies are receiving billions in tax exemptions and yet in the 2021 Budget there are no measures to alleviate the onerous tax burden on the ordinary working Guyanese man and woman. The income tax threshold was not increased nor the PAYE rate reduced.
I am wondering if this government will even consider immediately removing PAYE on overtime work in light of the fact that almost half the income earned for overtime goes back in taxes while people have to sacrifice their sleep, family obligations, etc. during the nights, weekends and holidays.
If implemented, this will assist to increase the disposable income for a significant segment of the population and boost productivity because more people will be willing to work overtime.
Thank you.
A. Hassan
