Chief Justice Ian Chang has granted an order temporarily prohibiting the holding of the Demerara Cricket Board’s (DCB) Annual General Meeting (AGM) until the hearing and determination of the originating summons.
The AGM and Elections of the DCB were scheduled for Sunday but West Demerara Cricket Association President and DCB Vice-President Anand Sanasie on December 23 filed an Ex-Parte application by way of affidavit to have the AGM put on hold.
Upon reading the application and hearing the Attorneys-at-Law for Sanasie the Chief Justice directed that the AGM, which was advertised in the Stabroek Newspaper on December 1 for January 2 by the respondents DCB President Bissoondyal Singh and executive member Samaroo Jailall, be temporarily stayed.
A Memorandum issued by the High Court warned Singh and Jailall that if they neglect to obey the order they would be liable to process of execution for the purpose of compelling them to obey the order.
The Berbice Cricket Board (BCB) held its elections last Monday and Keith Foster was returned unopposed as President while the Essequibo Cricket Board’s Elections is slated for January 9.
The composition of the DCB and the other two county Board’s could be critical to the Guyana Cricket Board (GCB) Elections, which is set for January 30.
GCB Marketing Manager Ramsay Ali, GCB Vice-President Bissoondyal Singh and former GCB Secretary Bish Panday are the three candidates vying for the top position on the GCB.
Ali has already told the cricketing fraternity about his plans for the development of Guyana’s cricket if elected as President in an interview with Kaieteur News while Singh and Pandy, who were also asked the same nine questions as Ali, have both promised this newspaper to respond with their answers shortly.
