…in honour of 61st independent anniversary of China
As part of celebration to mark the 61st anniversary of the founding of the People’s Republic of China, the Chinese Embassy staged a photographic exhibition at the Linden Exhibition Centre last weekend.
That exhibition showcased the landscape, people and culture of China. Present at the exhibition were Prime Minister Samuel Hinds; Chairman of Region Ten, Mortimer Mingo; Chinese Ambassador to Guyana Yu Wenzhe and members of the diplomatic community.
Prime Minister Hinds spoke of the appropriateness of the event, especially at this time when China can reflect on the development of its economy from 1949. Today it is now being recognised as the second largest economy in the world.
He called on the gathering to use the history and development of China as important and noted that China today is as a result of the sacrifices that were made by the Chinese people.
Evidence of Guyana’s bilateral friendship with China was recently seen with the disclosure that the majority of funding for the Amaila Falls Hydro power project coming from the China Development Bank. The Prime Minister said that the exhibition provides the opportunity for the world to learn more about Shanghai and China.
Ambassador Yu Wenzhe said that he is happy to know that Bosai Company, the Chinese medical team and other members of the Chinese Community in Guyana are living and working in harmony with Guyanese for the economic and social development of this country, especially Linden.
The ambassador also said that Linden has many development advantages in the various sectors including mining, machinery and infrastructure building that the two countries can use to further strengthen their relation.
He assured that China will remain committed to peaceful development by working hand in hand with people from other countries, especially Guyana. The exhibition is being held under the theme “Experience Shanghai, Embrace the world”.
