Doctors at the Georgetown Public Hospital are desperately trying to save the left foot of porter, Mahadeo Rookim, of Golden Fleece Estate. The man was struck down by a hire car yesterday on the Johanna Cecilia Public road.
According to a police report, yesterday, around 13.30hrs, Rookim left his place of employment and was heading home on his motorcycle when he was struck from behind by a car that was trying to overtake him.
The porter was immediately rushed to the Suddie Public Hospital, but because the seriousness of his condition caused doctors to have him air dashed to the city hospital where doctors are struggling to save his left leg.
Police have since launched an investigation into the matter and the driver is in police custody.
