The Berbice Cricket Board (BCB) as part of its Social Outreach and Community Programme which was launched in January of this year will be hosting a series of activities for the Christmas Season.
These events have been organized by the Board’s, Special Events Committee (SEC) as part of the organization’s effort to be involved in activities off the field with the aim of making a positive difference in the lives of youths and the elderly.
SEC Chairman Hilbert Foster stated that the Board has a social responsibility and noted that since the start of the programme, their image has improved tremendously.
On Christmas Day, Secretary Angela Haniff and Assistant Secretary Carol Nurse will visit the New Amsterdam and Fort Wellington Hospitals to make presentations of new born kits and hygiene packages to mothers. They would also visit the children’s ward at both hospitals to present toys and educational packages to all children who have spent their Christmas at those institutions.
On Sunday December 27, the Board would be hosting a Christmas party for 50 less fortunate citizens at the Board Office, Cheddi Jagan Street, New Amsterdam.
Children will receive special gifts along with educational supplies for the new school term.
Also on the 27th, twelve (12) senior citizens drawn from across the County would receive special food hampers and other gifts for the festive season.
On Monday next, the Board would donate $70,000 worth of items to the Children of Promise Eden Orphanage.
On Wednesday 16th, the Board would be launching its 2009 Christmas Cards Programme and Calendars for 2010. The Cards would feature the Albion Cricket Team, National 40 overs champions and was printed by the F&H Printery with sponsorship from the Rose Hall Town Youth & Sports Club.
The Cards and Calendars would be distributed to all clubs, sponsors, the business sector and friends of the BCB.
The list of activities would conclude with a Thanksgiving and Tribute Luncheon on Sunday January 3rd, 2010 at the St. Francis Annex Restaurant.
The Board, during the Luncheon would honour the Berbice Under-19 and Senior Inter County teams. Both teams won the One-Day and Four-Day tournaments organized by the Guyana Cricket Board.
