“What we’ve already started to do is to monitor the bars. Our patrol vehicles will be out there and we will be doing checks at all the popular bars. I’ve had discussions with all my officers in the various divisions and we have a principled approach to dealing with this throughout the holidays,” the Traffic Chief said.
Semple explained that ranks will be positioned at concealed locations outside the nightspots and when they observe a person suspected of being under the influence of alcohol – above the prescribed limit – jump into a vehicle and drive, they will move in.
The fine for persons found guilty of exceeding the prescribed limit of alcohol is $7,500 for the first offence.
A person can even have his licence suspended if he violates the drink driving laws more than two times.
Meanwhile the traffic department will also be paying keen attention to those motorists who park their vehicles in such a position where they obscure the view of others.
“We’re going to be enforcing all the laws and we found out that that is one of the areas that needs our attention during the season,” the Traffic Chief stressed.
