General Secretary of National Association of Agricultural Commercial and Industrial Employees, NAACIE, Kenneth Joseph, said that the concerns of workers at BOSAI have been put to rest as there are no plans to scale down operation.
In an invited comment yesterday, Joseph said BOSAI’s General Manager, Steven Ma, has returned to Guyana and they have since settled what in workers’ mind was a burning issue.
A few weeks ago, the workers were expressing fears that the company may be scaling down operations which may have eventually lead to some of them being laid off.
Workers claimed that the kilns at Linden have not been fired up in a while.
Also there are reports that already there has been a reduction in almost all operations.
Hence, the workers were fearful of this development, given the world’s economic crisis.
Joseph said the Union had written to the bauxite company and they have been given all assurance that there would be no separation of workers nor scaling down in operation.
Meanwhile, Joseph said with that issue out of the way, the union is now preparing to begin negotiations with the company for wages increase for workers for this year.
