Over the course of the past weekend, women leaders of the People’s National Congress Reform (PNCR), from across the country met to chart the way forward for its National Congress of Women (NCW).
The NCW is the women’s arm of the PNCR and those involved in the forum held at Congress Place, Sophia, included its Executive
Members, the Female Members of Parliament associated with A Partnership for National Unity (APNU), as well as the Women Councillors of the various Regional Democratic Councils (RDCs).
Chairperson of the NCW, Cheryl Sampson, in setting the tone for the discussions, outlined several proposals for charting a developmental course for women in Guyana.
During her discourse, the Chairperson advised that the NCW must be proactive, visible and vocal as it relates to any programme developed during the retreat.
The gathering also benefitted from an address by Project Officer, Bevon Currie, who encouraged the women to organise themselves into Non-Governmental Organisations (NGOs), and to identify economic and social projects for their communities.
Currie, in delivering his charge to the women leaders, identified many of the numerous agencies that provide funding for such programmes, and urged that they access the facilities.
The participants of the forum agreed to ensure that the interests and well-being of women in every community rank high on the party’s agenda.
They also agreed on the need to develop and implement relevant programmes for their communities.
