DEAR EDITOR,
So it is official that Monday is E-day. Thousands of Guyanese would be heading to their respective polling stations to choose a party or coalition that will lead them for the next five years.
Already, the government has announced that it will be a national holiday.
It will be recalled that the Ministry of Education had announced first that there will be no school on March 2nd for elections day.
However, there should be some further orders.
Monday is no ordinary day. It will be a day when Guyanese will have to remain sober and level-headed.
It will be a day when we have to be on the alert.
It will be a sacred day.
I am therefore reminding the Minister of Public Security, Khemraj Ramjattan, and Commissioner of Police, Leslie James, that Monday should not be a day when liquor restaurants and bars should be open.
They should make it clear that such will be the case.
In fact, there should be enforcement by the powers that be to ensure that these facilities remain close, to ensure law and order.
It is expected that the police would conduct such enforcement for the greater good of Guyana.
For one day, we have to do what is required, what is right.
Cobeer Persaud
