Dear Editor,
At a time when the Ed Ahmad scandal just keeps getting bigger and bigger, his PPP front organization the Association of Concerned Guyanese will be hosting a fund raising Barbeque in Queens NY on 14th Aug for President Jagdeo and his puppet Donald Ramotar. Ahmad has been charged by the FBI with mortgage fraud and he has refused a plea deal which would see him serve 3 years imprisonment and be deported to Guyana.
Although he is a Jagdeo/PPP sycophant and financier, for which he has been “sold” Leonora Estate and the PPP’s Mirror’s land at Ruimveldt, Ahmad is afraid of living in Guyana under the Jagdeo/PPP regime. He has opted for a trial and risks 20 years imprisonment and still being deported to Guyana. Ahmad declared in a NY Court that he was close friend with Jagdeo.
The Court has shipping records that show that Ahmad shipped 29 tons of building material to Jagdeo at State House in 2009. It is also known that Ahmad also shipped hardware supplies to two other Government officials. It is still not clear if the consignments were used by the PPP personnel or if they were sold at Ahmad’s store which is located on the same premises as the Mirror Newspaper. The VAT- burdened ordinary Guyanese want to know if taxes were paid.
PPP presidential candidate Donald Ramotar must tell the public and PPP supporters if the requisite Customs Duty, Consumption Tax, and VAT were paid by Jagdeo, Persaud, and Lall, or by Ahmad. Failure to do so would cause more and more PPP supporters to abandon the party. Most PPP members and supporters are now even angrier at Jagdeo’s ousting of the honest and scandal free Moses Nagamootoo, Navin Chanderpaul, and Komal Chand.
Those PPP supporters who long to see Moses, Navin, and Komal in their rightful place in government should take comfort in APNU’s position. APNU, which is a coalition led by David Granger and Rupert Roopnarine, has stated that it will invite honest and pro labour PPP members to join the government of national unity. And Moses, Navin, and Komal would make the perfect representatives of the PPP supporters. Khemraj Ramjattan and the AFC would also be invited into an APNU government led by President David Granger. It is in everyone’s interest to vote for APNU.
